To Be So Afraid

To Be So Afraid · 3:4

Close portrait of a freckled girl with green eyes and parted glossy lips looking up through vines, leaves and pink and cream dahlias, a tear at her eye and stem shadows across her cheek. Signed Magpie.

A freckled girl looks up and away through a tangle of vines, leaves and heavy dahlias, green eyes glassy, lips parted, a tear gathering at the corner of one eye. The stems cross her face and throw thin shadows on her cheek, and one hand rests in her pale curls. It is close, warm and a little claustrophobic. The poem behind it warns that being so afraid of possible grief loses you the love itself, and she looks like someone deciding whether to push through the vines or stay behind them.

Made from a poem.
